"Building for Dwelling" is the name I am building my furniture under.
To Dwell is more than to live in a place, building for dwelling involves how you live in the space you occupy. There is a sense of honesty and peace in dwelling. I strive to build furniture that is of use and bares a personal sense of connectedness. Creating objects that in a sense live. Furniture that is a reaction to the disposable nature of modern life.
Each piece of furniture is thoughtfully examined and responsibly built, finding a balance between what is practical and what is ideal.
I try to keep an honest balance of hand and power tool use. Joinery, surfacing, and carving are done by hand, while milling and rough work is done with the aid of power tools.
I also try to balance the utilization of reclaimed materials and remnants of other projects with the practicality of new materials.
The name is derived from an essay by one of my favorite philosophers, Martin Heidegger; it is often translated as "Building, Dwelling, Thinking"
